Congratulations George Hincapie!

Wow, what a great road race yesterday in Greenville. After every lap over Paris Mountain the field seamed to cut in half. This was no doubt a tough course for many of the domestic pros who are accustomed to racing crits all season. It was really cool to see future teammates Hincapie and Leipheimer working together to keep the pace fast from the start. I won’t go into detail about the race; all of the cycling news sites have the story. I will say that one day after the event I am still super excited about Greenville’s first USA Pro Championship. It was so cool to see the pros race on roads that I ride all the time. For the most part, the rain held off; we really couldn’t have asked for a better weekend of racing. Way to bring that stars and stripes jersey home to Greenville George.

Oh yeah, check out some of my pictures of the time trial and the road race here.

You ride those roads? That should give you renewed vigor the next time you go out for a spin, especially on Paris Mountain. Is that South Carolina’s Tourmalet?

I don’t know if Paris Mountain is South Carolina’s Toumalet, but it is definitely Greenville’s. We have quite a few good climbs up on the border with North Carolina, but Paris Mountain is definitely the one in town. The summit is only 8 miles from my house, so I include it in many of my rides. Of course, I have never felt like doing it 5 times over the course of 120 miles. Next time I will have to shoot for 8 min 30 seconds on that climb. That is about 4 minutes faster than I can do the climb just one time. Those guys are just amazing.
