Spooklight and a few other links

The Spooklight (pictured here) is a wireless turn indicator and brake light for bicycles. Using technology similar to the iPhone’s accelerometer, it automatically senses when the bike is slowing down and displays the brake lights. The turning signal function is operated manually via a touch sensitive pad that mounts to the bars. The Spooklight charges by USB and, when charged can work as a power bank to top off your phone or mp3 player on the go. Looks like a pretty interesting product. Read more about it at 50 Cycles and at Treehugger.

Also on Treehugger, see this recent post about bike trailers, which featured 20 different models.

Kara Ginther is a leather artisan who customizes Brooks saddles. She hand carves each one to create a one of a kind piece of functional art. Amazing work…check it out at To Be, Inspired.

Brompton had a good presence at 100% design in London this year. See their bikes and others that were on display at the London design festival at Designboom.

Also in London, Cycle Show 2009 wrapped up last week. London Cyclist had a good recap of the show. BikeBiz did a four-part show guide that you can see here, here, here, and here. Road.cc posted a good photo gallery from the show. Bike Radar shows us some of the new models at the show from British bike builders Enigma. Speaking of Enigma, check out the blinged out diamond studded custom Ti bike that they had on display in this quickrelease.tv post.

Exframebuilder Dave Moulton recently shared his thoughts on “The Evolution of Frame Design” in an interesting 3 part series on his blog- Part 1, Part 2, Part3.

Urban Velo posted about the Shorty Fatz frames that were on display at Interbike. They certainly were eyecathing. Check out a few of my shots of those bikes as well.

Commute by Bike is a blog that I used to check on a regular basis. The site was dormant for quite a while, but now it is back and being run by Bike Shop Girl. Both of her sites are worth a look, so check them out.

Finally, I will mention that Tom posted some of my wife’s paintings of Chinese bicycles on Bikejuju. As I said in the comments, I may be slightly biased, but I really like them.

Well, that’s all for me this week…I’m taking a little time off from the computer. I’ll be back next week though with that electric bike post that I have been promising since Interbike.

    Good roundup!!

Also the Spooklight seems very interesting. I also covered a bike light innovation called the Fibre Flare bike light. It basically emits far more light than other bike lights and is flexible to be positioned anywhere such as your backpack. What impressed me is that it aims to provide light in all directions so that cars can see you coming from the side which some bike lights fail to do.

Bike lights seem to be taking big strides forward – post on the evolution of bike lights on the way?

Wow a $90 bike light. Yes it is way cool but that price point seems a little crazy.
