Friday links

I am in a hurry today, but I want to quickly pass along a few links of interest.

Check out the Trek Lime blog for an interesting podcast. Trek used Solidworks software in the development of the Lime, so the folks at Solidworks talked to Trek’s senior industrial designer Hans Eckholm about the design of the bike.

Quickrelease.tv has a great YouTube video clip from the Taipei bike show that features bikes like the Giant Citystorm and the Topeak Jango. Both of those bikes are discussed in a Bike Biz article about the trend toward integrated accessories on bikes. While you are at Bike Biz, also check out the article about the British designed bikes that won awards at this year’s show.

    Thanks, James. I like all the integrated stuff but, of course, it’s not new.

    It’s by famed cycling illustrator Daniel Rebour and shows an integrated handlebar and lamp.

    In a recent BikeBiz mag I carried a load of bike patents from the 1890s which looked a lot like modern day ‘innovation’s but most of these patent drawings never made it into real life. The Rebour drawings are different: they are of commercially produced accessories.

    Yep, Carlton, good point and thanks for that link. Most everything that we think of as new has at least been tried before. I absolutely love looking though Archibald Sharp’s classic book from the late 1800s. That was definitely an innovative time for the bicycle industry.
