The South Carolina Institute of Art and Design (SCI-AD) is a new organization that is focused on “developing the creative inclinations and problem-solving abilities of students, design professionals, and individuals from business and industry” The organization stresses strategic design and aims to educate industry about the value of design as a business tool. Currently, SCI-AD offers seminars and workshops that will allow attendees to work with design experts to better understand the problem solving process that is at the core of the development of any truly innovative product.
So why am I telling you about a design organization in South Carolina? Well, last week I heard of a seminar they are offering that may interest some of you. “A Need for Speed: Personal Transportation Design at Buell, Trek & Polaris” will take place on July 20th at the SCI-AD facility in Columbia, SC. Jeff Staszak, a Senior Industrial Designer at Trek will be one of the three featured designers who will discuss the importance of design in their respective industries and will work through relevant, industry specific design problems with the attendees. The seminar is open to anyone, so if you are interested in attending, find out more on the services section of the SCI-AD website. If I am able to attend, you can bet that you will hear more about it here on Bicycle Design.
On an unrelated note, I will be traveling next week and will probably not have a chance to post again until I return (It is great to busy, but I have way too many irons in the fire right now). If you want to see new design content while I am away, I once again recommend that you check out Bicycle Tech. Lincoln has been doing a great job lately of scouring bicycle forums, as well as the rest of the web, in order to bring you the latest news about innovative new bike products.
