I noticed this while skimming through a design magazine this morning, Blueprint directory to be specific. The Bicicleta rug from Spanish designer Nani Marquina is made from recycled bicycle tubes. I don’t know how cozy this rubber rug would be, but I like the idea of recycling tubes into something. I have a box of punctured tubes in my garage that are just waiting to be patched in bulk one of these days. I will probably never get around to that, so maybe I should just make something with them instead.
You have probably already seen the Cyclepod parking stand which stores up to eight bikes upright within a two meter diameter space. Cool Hunting reported last week that the product’s designers, James Steward and Natalie Connell, won the UK’s Young Entrepreneurs Of The Year Award. Congrats to both of them.
Finally, If you haven’t yet seen it, check out the Interbike Times group blog. Interbike Times is the name of the daily newspaper that is distributed at the show, but the blog is new for this year. I recommend that you bookmark the blog site and check back throughout the summer, because this will be the place to hear from bicycle industry insiders as they gear up for the 25th anniversary of cycling’s biggest tradeshow.
