Luna 3D printed Bicycle by Omer Sagiv

Artist and designer Omer Sagiv has shared his conceptual bike designs here a couple of times in the past. His latest is Luna, a bike that features a 3d printed nylon frame, fork, and bar/stem assembly. The ability to customize and make design changes without a tooling investment is a big advantage with 3d printed bike frames (or any other product for that matter), and Omer points out that fact in one of his presentation boards below. He also mentions that the form of the Luna “wisely uses the good specific strength and durability of nylon” with its hexagon frame structure which allows minimal surface area for a strong light structure.”

See additional renderings of Sagiv’s design below, and check out a few previous posts about 3d printed bikes. I think it is safe to say that this is a topic that we will hear a lot more about in the near future.

It’s hard to even call this a BSO. Is there a fancy new type of nylon? I know a lot of plasticy nylon parts, and they aren’t strong over time. I can only imagine that sitting on this seat would deform the nylon over time. I wish there was more to the actual materials design than just making something with 2 wheels and calling it a bike.

One more example for a nice industrial design with little knowledge about mechanical loads within a bike frame. My engineering instinct tells me that this baby will snap with the first serious pedal stroke (inducing torsion not vertical bending).
