Alfa Romeo 4C IFD bicycle

Apparently the Alfa Romeo IFD 4C Bicycle made the rounds on all the auto blogs last fall, but I had not seen it until I received a few images from the folks at Compagnia Ducale. Along with the designers in the Alfa Romeo Style Centre, Compagnia Ducale designed the carbon fiber frame to compliment the style of the Alfa Romeo 4C sportscar. IFD in the name stands for “Innovative Frame Design,” and they explain a bit of the symbolism in the design here:

“The style of Alfa Romeo 4C inspired the dynamic and fluent lines of the frame that reveal a stylized ‘4’. The section of the frame recalls the letter ‘C’ and introduces a world premiere carbon fibre semi-tube section, the same as the frame of Alfa Romeo 4C.”

Unlike many bikes that are seen at auto shows, this is one that they are actually producing. The bikes will be made in Italy and will range in price from €3,500 to €9,000 for a limited edition run. That is definitely not cheap, but it is an interesting design that would certainly stand out on your next group ride. After all, how many other 15 pound sporty road bikes do you see with C profile tubes and integrated lights?

Wow! I love that. It looks to be a concept that will sell to a mass market too. ‘Course, like all nice things, it’s expensive which means it’s more likely to be owned by tubby, middle-aged accountants than someone who can put it to real use. I’m already wondering how that frame will perform. It looks as if it will flex but still retain a taut ride.

Gentili Signori:-

In questo momento sto’ progettando un reumbent trike per adulti con interasse longitudinale tra 950 mm e 1050 mm,
larghezza tra 820 e 860 mm circa , lunghezza totale ??? inferiore di molto anche per una persona alta 200 cm ,
anche con una ruota motrice da 712mm e le altre ruote con diametro a piacere ; angolo del sedile a 35° . Centro
di Gravità in posizione ottimale . Rapporti di velocità a piacere a partire da 10.
Cambiando le dimensioni delle ruote e sostituendo solo la parte anteriore posso trasformarlo per i ragazzi senza
cambiare o no l’altezza del sedile. E’ un progetto nuovo ed ha idee nuove . Ma posso anche cambiare il modo
di guidare a piacere in uno stesso modello senza togliere o aggiungere alcun oggetto. Il sistema di guida
iniziale è nuovo , ma in più posso trovare la condizione giusta per ogni guidatore. Posso trasformare il modo di
guidare del trike da sportivo a passeggio per signore e viceversa. Cioè da tilting trike a semplice recumbent
trike con una semplice operazione; mantenendo sempre gli stessi pezzi o elementi costruttivi
Questo è un progetto totalmente nuovo da quelli da me menzionati precedentemente. Per fare questo progetto ho
dovuto documentarmi via internet e dedurre le dimensioni e le innovazioni strutturali del telaio e della
meccanica ciclistica unita ad un disegno geometrico più che apprezzabile sia strutturalmente che visivamente
cioè doveva essere bello allo sguardo e appagante, doveva essere molto funzionale e senza intoppi di sorta,
doveva essere qualcosa di italiano, di nuovo , qualcosa di non copiato.
Questo progetto non è ingombrante ed è il frutto di due anni di progetti precedenti , di documentazione , di studi di
meccanica e fisica.
Volendo si può anche personalizzare il telaio e farlo su misura , in questo caso rigido , con un semplicissimo e
lineare cambio misura all’atto della saldatura , con interasse sempre nei parametri sopra indicati .
Cioè un trike diverso da tutti . –
