A bit more from Eurobike 2012

It has been over a week since the Eurobike Award 2012 winners were announced. If you missed them, see the 8 Gold award winning products here. All are nice products, but so are many of the other entries that didn’t receive Gold awards. I’ll quickly point out a few of those today.  This is not a comprehensive list by any means, but a random selection of products that caught my attention as I browsed through the press release info.

The 45 km/h Diavelo Speedbike by Protanium (pictured above)  is a sporty pedelec with a removable battery integrated into the frame (similar to the Specialized Turbo or the Cube EPO Line). You can see a few basic specs on the bike here, and check the Protanium website for more.

The HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs E-Trike is another interesting fast pedelec from the show.  The design borrows chassis technology from automotive engineering for great handling. “The low center of gravity and the ergonomic rider support in the comfortable recumbent seat enable dynamic acceleration. The independent full suspension with adjustable MacPherson struts on the front wheels, unique stabilizer system and long wheelbase provide maximum driving pleasure when cornering hard.”

In addition to the KTM eShopper, which won a Gold award, the Diavelo and the Scorpion are just a couple of the electric bikes (and trikes) from the show. If you are interested in seeing more, Torben Finn Laursen of Cykelportalen.dk has posted a great photoset of e-bikes from Eurobike

The Racktime I-Valo Tour deluxe is a rear rack with an integrated LED light. The electronics for the light are placed inside the reflector (which seems a bit redundant), but they point out that it can also build into the frontlight or into a battery-box of E-bikes.”

Small saddlebags are a product that does not usually get much design attention, but the Integra KLICKfix bags have a nice clean appearance and an aerodynamic shape. I like the quickrease system too.

Unlike heavy suspension seatposts, the sub 200 gram Ergon CF3 Pro Carbon Flex is designed to absorb bumps in the a poor road surface through the flex of twin carbon beams. The saddle itself is maintains its position thanks to the bearing equipped pivots on the seatpost head.

The Biologic Joule 3 dynamo hub is “the lightest premium hub available on the market – with output efficiency nearly 15% higher than current industry benchmarks.” Aside from the environmental benefits, not having to hassle with charging batteries all the time is reason to want a lightweight and efficient hub dynamo on a commuter or urban utility bike. This one works with standard dynamo lighting systems and also with the BioLogic ReeCharge system to power a range of consumer electronics.

I could go on and on listing interesting products, but I am pressed for time today. You can see much more from the show in Torben Finn Laursen’s galleries though. I already mentioned his e-bike photoset, but also check out his photos from the demo day, the Eurobike Awards, and the Eurobike show in general. Definitely some great photo coverage for those of us who couldn’t make it to Friedrichshafen in person!

“…and motor integrated into the frame”

They all have wheel motors 😉

Oops! That is what happens when I try to write a post in 30 minutes. I should have just said battery integrated into the frame. Thanks… I’ll make the correction.

…and another correction for this post. Thanks, I’ll fix that one too.

reflector and light are not “redundant”. maybe in function, but not in legal aspects. bikes in germany have to be equipped with both things.
