Velomobile technology, design, and engineering seminar

Though I have yet to actually ride in a velomobile, I mention them on the blog fairly often.  It is definitely a transportation category that interests me, and one that I would very much like to learn more about.  For that reason, I really wish I could make it to the 7th International Velomobile Seminar, which will take place in Dronten, NL on September 6th through the 8th.  According to Jos Sluijsmans of Fietsdiensten.nl, the focus of the seminar this year will be technology, design, and engineering of velomobiles, as well as infrastructure and social aspects/commuting.”Velomobilists from all over the world will attend for the seminars and exhibitions… and just to meet and ride with others who share the same interests.

Check out the website for general information about the seminar. If you think you might want to attend, see the schedule of events here and registration information here. If you are a producer of velomobiles and accessories, or a non-commercial home builder who wants to show off your own vehicle, contact Jos Sluijsmans for information about exhibiting.

We are really considering one and living in Northern germany makes it easy to hop over there for the Seminar. We are looking for one that has a small kids seat in the back. I, too, never drove/rode one, so I’m stoked to hop in one. I see a husband an wife ride two every morning as I’m on the way to my daughters kindergarten on our cargo bike. I zip along quite well and they pass me like I’m standing still. I see their parking spot in the city and it is at least a 15kilometer hike for them every day. Impressive. The main reason we want it is to stay out of the elements, as it rains A LOT here.

On another note. My prototype cargo bike is nearly complete. I promise to send the pictures and build report soon.
