Maybe the idea of Coast Guard patrols on a Surley Pugley or the likes, equipped with certain rescue equipment would be a step forwards. This thing is a huge step floorwards.

Frames of pressurized carbon fiber balloons, windshields of flattened, helium-inflated Lexan. Oh, and inflate the tires, too, just not the edges only.

I wonder if it might not have been easier to repurpose a pedicab for that kind of hauling.

I also like the idea of the vending machine, so imagine my surprise when I find out it is actually near where I live! I’ve never seen it before because the location is bad (the transit station it is in has poor access to the nearby bike trail). We also have a number of nearby bike shops in that area, including one right on bike trail itself. I think a much better location for something like this would be somewhere where it might not be so profitable to staff a bike shop, but still gets a fair amount of bike traffic (e.g., downtown).
