An iF Gold Award for the Batavus BUB

Last week, I mentioned in a post full of unrelated links that the Batavus BUB was awarded an iF Product design award this year. Just today, VanBelo Design Strategy and Product Development officially accepted that iF Gold award for the design of the BUB, which they point out was inspired by a paperclip during the development phase. You can read the award announcement here, and see a nice rendering of the design on VanBerlo’s website. Also, be sure to check out more images of the BUB design in VanBerlo’s Flickr set.

After looking at the images, you might notice that the original design is slightly different from the prototype BUB that I recently reviewed. The most notable difference is the chainguard. The fully enclosed version on the original design was replaced with a partial guard for cost reasons. Overall though, the production bike is pretty true to the original design. Congratulations to VanBerlo and to Batavus on this well deserved award.
