I find these concepts very intriguing. However, even with the latest materials these things will be very heavy relative to a bicycle. Pedaling a 100lb velomobile (even with aero design) is a sweaty, slow slog of a ride.

These things only make sense if they include an electric assist, or an electric drivetrain with a pedal assist.

the only models I've seen that have that (like Goblin) are $10,000!!

You aren't going to get anybody other than tinkerers and "the fringe" of the cycling community into these things if they cost as much as a reasonably priced car.

I see a lot of velomobile concepts and covered bikes/trikes out there being proposed by designers. With all the recent developments with public bike infrastructure, rising fuel costs and increased eco-awareness among the general public, I think HPV's are about to emerge as a viable option to cars for local transportation. Electric assist will overcome many of the weight and hillcimbing issues.

Ecogo is a very nice proposal and very atractive...My only concern is the very low, recumbent seating position and its effect on visibility and entry/egress. Aerodynamics are important, but for everyday riders ease of use is just as important.
