Eurobike Awards and a few more links

I mentioned the G-max bike from Girs in a previous post. Coralie, an engineer who worked on the bike and documented its development in a blog, let me know that the G-max won a Eurobike Award 2008. Congrats to Coralie and everyone at Girs on the distinction. See the other bikes and products, including the IF Mode from Pacific, right here on the iF Design website.

Ron pointed out a concept bike to me, the Rotation city bike by designer Yirong Yang. More about that one here.

Gizmodo had a couple of bike related posts recently. This thing reminds me a bit of another odd machine that I posted last year. Also on Gizmodo was a bike with an integrated ipod charger. I have seen that idea in several other places recently (one of the Cannondale D-Tank concept bikes comes to mind). I still don’t think mixing ipods and cycling it is a good idea, but I bet it is something we will see more of in the near future.

Many of you are probably already familiar with Taliah Lempert, but I have heard from a few other bike related artists lately that I would like to point out. Steve is the artist behind Velopaint and as the name implies he creates cycling themed paintings. David lives in Canada and creates recycled bike art. Leo is another artist who makes bike sculptures and jewelry in glass.

Finally, I’ll mention that Robb is giving away a couple pairs of Clix wheel release systems. Check out Mountain Biking by 198 to enter.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Been meaning to ask if you’ve seen this:

Not a bike. But, vaguely bike related. V.odd design. Very Alien-esque.

Personally, I like the silence when I’m out riding. And knowing that I can’t hear my mobile.

I really digg David McCelvey’s bike art at bikengruvin.com.

He’s done some very cool artworks. It’s very innovative if you ask me.

To see his YouTube channel it is

Neat stuff! Click my name above for a quick link to his videos.

The DI cycle is interesting but only on flat land. I saw two fellows ride a similar homebrew machine at the Boulder Cruiser ride once. The two men sat side by side with ~6′ dia wheels. Each man was in charge of driving and braking one wheel. On a downhill, they tried to slow the bike but pitched sharply upwards in their seats. The left man panicked and hit the brakes hard, turning them right into a parked car, destroying their bike and damaging the car. Downhill on such a bike is pretty dangerous as braking power is limited by the mass of the rider and seat which can easily launch over the axis.

I was really happy Reelight won at the Eurobike awards

Reelight is among the gold winners at EUROBIKE Award 2008! That was announced last night at an official ceremony in the South German town Friedrichshafen. Reelight is the only gold awarded bike light manufacturer.

EUROBIKE Award is a major prize-giving in the bike business and CEO Kenneth Linnebjerg is proud that the jury chose to award Reelight’s model SL120 Power Backup in the category ‘Bike Equipments’.

    – It is a huge recognition to the company and the organisation winning gold here at EUROBIKE Award. We are proud to have a top product and in the future we will of course continue the development, so – hopefully – we can win another award next year, says Kenneth Linnebjerg who participates together with Reelight’s other employees at the exhibition in Friedrichshafen.

Innovation, safety and eco-friendliness were the major criteria in the jury’s decision.
