I started this week off with a solid design related post, but the last couple, about my track bike on eBay and the US Pro races, have ventured slightly off topic. To make up for the lack of design content, I will do one of those posts where I just throw out a bunch of random links that cover about every different type of bike imaginable. So let’s get started.
Pictured here is a loaded trailer built by Peter Eland, Editor and Publisher of Velo Vision. He uses it, among other things, to transport bikes from the magazine offices to his home workshop for assembly. Actually, the trailer in the picture is one of his earlier ones. You can see several shots of his third and latest design right here on his website.
I am sure that many of you have been watching the Olympic cycling events like I have. Cyclingnews has a couple of Olympic tech articles here and here that are worth a look.
In an earlier post, I mentioned the Core77 1 hour design challenge for a Tour de France inspired cycling shoe. The contest is now closed and you can scroll through the 4 pages of results here to see the various entries.
Also on Core’s design blog is a post about Fast Friday, a documentary about Seattle’s fixed gear scene, and a post about the Dogsled, a monster quadcycle built by a father/son team for Burning Man.
Erik K has a post with some great pics of a Time RXR Ulteem. Check out the wheelset built with Time carbon hubs.
I have mentioned the Strida several times so I will pass this along. A reader, Marc, pointed out that the Strida 5.0 is in the latest MoMA catalog. I don’t know if they have the bike in the MoMA store too; maybe someone in NYC could let me know.
Renaissance Bicycles is a “vintage upfitting business” that just opened in Flat Rock / Hendersonville, NC (right up the road from me). They specialize in restoring vintage road frames and “renaissancing” them with all new components. Their motto is “Heritage Craftsmanship meets Modern Technology”. Seems like an interesting business idea. Check out their website for more.
Finally, I will mention a couple of links I was happy to see this past week. DL Bryon of Bike Hugger listed Bicycle Design in his “guest top 10 list” on blogs.com. I enjoy all of the blogs he mentioned, so if you don’t already read the other nine, I recommend that you check them out.
The BikeBiz awards finalists were announced recently, and Bicycle Design is one of the five finalists in the consumer website category. Scroll down a bit at this page to see the other finalists in that category. I am certainly honored to have this blog included in such good company.
