Look 586 Mondrian Limited Edition

I don’t have much time to post today, but I do want to quickly point you to some nice shots of the Look 586 Mondrian limited edition that were taken by Ken Conley. Only 50 of these Mondrian frames will be produced, so you had better order now if you want one. Read more about the limited edition release here.

I am a fan of Mondrian’s work; in fact, I have a print of his 1931 painting ‘Composition with two lines’ hanging in my office. I would order one of these frames, but I recently sold my old La Vie Claire winter cycling cap on ebay, so I guess I don’t need the matching bike anymore. Well… that and the fact that the fact that $4499 frameset price is a little rich for my blood. Oh well, at least I can look at Ken’s pictures.

Since I brought up La Vie Claire, I will change the subject and say that I was glad to hear that Trek has finally severed it’s ties with LeMond. Greg LeMond’s unfounded comments about Armstrong and others have been hurting his namesake brand for long enough, so I think Trek’s decision to dump the LeMond brand was way overdue. Still, it is too bad that the relationship had to end like this. I guess the positive thing about all this is that I don’t have to feel guilty about pulling for Fignon in the ’89 tour anymore. On one hand, I really wanted to like LeMond back then because his success in the sport was good for American cycling. On the other hand though, Fignon had that cool “professor” image going for him with the ponytail and round glasses. How could you not like that?

I almost think Mike Burrows new Ratracer VLR is more Mondrian inspired. The Look just looks like a Look advertisement.

I think Ron is right. Fignon owns a hotel in the Pyrenees and I believe he runs training camps form the hotel. Aside form the occasional appearance on TV coverage of the Tour, I haven’t seen much of him lately.

I wasn’t a big fan of Lemond before but lately I have changed my mind about him and feel he is standing up for the sport even though it may hurt himself now.
Being tried in the press is the best way for it to be all wrong..

I have no problem with LeMond speaking out for a cleaner sport; I just don’t like the way he has chosen to do it. LeMond has made several harsh statements about Armstrong that certainly infer he knows something, yet he has never offered any more than that. If Greg actually knows for a fact that Armstrong doped, he should come out and say it in a straightforward manor and explain why he believes it to be true. If he is just speculating, he should speak out against doping in general and keep his mouth shut about riders who never tested positive. His constant innuendos about Lance are tiresome and the whole “no one could perform like that with out drugs” argument sounds a lot like sour grapes.

I could be wrong, but LeMond has not given me any compelling reason to believe yet

…that bike certainly sez “look” at me but being a piet fan, i like it…when pop art became pop-ular, roy lichtenstein’s brightly colored panels along w/ warhol’s ‘soup can’ work always seemed more ‘mondrian-esque’ than other work from that era, in their bold & simple vividness…of course tom wesselmann actually included a ‘mondrian’ in one of his pieces…
…& great funny comment re: e-baying your la vie claire cap as reason not to buy the look frameset…

…i’m w/ you on the lemond/ trek thing…THAT relationship is just business & greg’s actions are counter productive to both his own & trek’s business…

…as far as the doping issue in cycling, i would better applaud lemond’s efforts if when pointing direct fingers, he used substantiated evidence…he ‘may’ be right about armstrong but simply creating controversy does two things…it makes greg look like he has his own hidden agenda & at a time when cycling’s already tarnished public image needs to be revised, lemond’s tactics are counter to both that end & his own stated wishes…

…all we’re provided w/ is a frustrating discourse between two celebrated, litigious “cycling personalities”…

…& a very nasally “hoh, hoh, hoh monsieur, eyou aare bust–ed regardement le professuer, ah oui ???”…

You seem to have a nice measured view of the doping business. Did you read David Walsh’s most recent, “From Lance to Landis”? There’s no smoking gun, so to speak, but certainly a lot of circumstantial evidence, and a lot of unanswered questions.

What do you think of Walsh

David, I have not read Walsh’s book, so I can’t really comment on him. I have read a few short excerpts, but not really enough to form an unbiased option about the guy or his work.

I did just finish reading Landis’ book “Positively False”, and I enjoyed it. I was not convinced about Floyd’s guilt or innocence before, but the book does raise some good questions.

Thanks for the post on our Mondrian bike. We wanted to create a design that represented LOOK’s heritage, but give it a modern feel. We were really pleased to see Ken’s photos. I know he likes to downplay his studio expertise, but I think his photos turned out great.

Armstrong is clearly a poser, he was doped and everyone knows it, he can take testosterone due to cancer and all the rest can not. And that with the assumption that he was not taking anything else.

I like the fact that Lemond express his opinion over comercial interests.

And what i like more is that his brand won´t be realated anymore with such an awful, shitty and crappy brand as trek…
