Fonta folder and more

I am quite busy at the moment, so I probably won’t have another chance to post until sometime next week. I do have a few things I want to pass along, so this will be one of those hodgepodge posts with a few quick unrelated links.

Bicycle Design reader Miles sent me a link to this folding bike design from Kieran McCardle of CKE Cycles. The article points out that the Fonta is the first ever “Irish designed, developed & manufactured folding bicycle.” Read more here at Velo Vision

The initial phase of the 12th International Bicycle Design Competition is currently underway. If you want to enter, you have until August 15th to register on the website. Twenty-one finalists will be selected by September 15th and the final results will be announced on March 13, 2008, the first day of the 2008 Taipei International Cycle Show.

Bike Biz reports that Scott Bicycles and Denk Engineering will end their 12-year R&D partnership in October. Denk was responsible for the development of the Strike and Spark carbon fiber bikes recently. This fall, we will see the last three new Scott bikes designed in partnership with Denk at the industry trade shows.

Finally, Spinopsys points to a Gizmodo post about the new Trek Madone winning the Tour de France. Well, technically I should point out that Contador won while riding the new Madone, but this blog is really all about bikes so why drag a rider into it. Anyway, check out the Gizmodo post, especially the comments. No surprise that they went that direction.

True Irish Innovation. It only took 45 years to think of adding a couple of pivots to Alex Moulton’s 20″ wheeled spaceframe bike to make it foldable.
