OK, as you can tell by the absence of green on Hincapie’s Discovery kit, this picture is not actually from the Tour de France. Instead, this is one of my shots from the Tour de Georgia earlier this year. I would like to be in Europe watching the race and taking new pictures, but instead I just have to follow it on the web like most fans. Oh well, at least there is a lot of great coverage at all the usual sites and throughout the blogosphere.
The tech section of Cyclingnews is one of the best spots on the web to see the bikes of the Tour. I love to see new time trial bikes, so “Bikes of the Prologue” was the first article that I checked out. Speaking of time trial bikes, the new Specialized S-works Transition caught my attention. In particular, take a look at the “speed gussets” between the headtube and the downtube. Very nice! Did anyone notice those gussets on Tom Boonen’s bike during the Prologue?
While you are checking out Cyclingnews, take a look at Boonen’s Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL2. You can also get a nice close look at Leipheimer’s new Madone. There were rumors floating around the web that Discovery would not be riding the new designs in the Tour, but that is certainly not the case. I guess the new Madones were considered to be enough of an improvement over the old model to justify a mid season switch right before the Tour.
