Like the Jackknife design, which I have posted before, this is a commuter bike concept from a graduate student at Elisava Design School in Barcelona. Unlike the Jackknife, which relies on future technology to work, Cristian Ciuraneta Catalan designed a bike that is based on current bicycle technology. This bike features mountain bike geometry and 26” wheels, a single-sided fork with Headshok suspension, and Scalpel-inspired rear suspension with chainstays designed to flex vertically and provide 70mm of travel. The frame would be made from carbon fiber and would fold in half for storage and transport. The orange padding was designed to protect the frame and shock when leaning the bike against streetlights, signposts, etc.
As Torgny Fjeldskaar , Cannondale’s Director of Industrial Design, explains; “The brief was to design a commuter-bike for style and tech-oriented urbanites, incorporating and evolving some trademark Cannondale design features.” It appears that Cristian did just that and his concept is quite interesting. I’d love to see more of these concepts from the Cannondale/Elisava School collaboration.
