Dave Zabriskie’s race winning Cervelo P3

Have I mentioned that I am excited about the USA Pro Championship races in Greenville? Yeah, I thought maybe I had. I really enjoyed watching the time trial this morning from my spot near the turnaround point. Unfortunately, my camera started to malfunction in the light rain and I missed getting pictures of many of the riders out on the course, including race winner Dave Zabriskie. Oh well, that’s OK. I got a few good race pictures that I will post next week on Flickr. Besides, this blog is all about the bikes anyway. Luckily, by the time the race was over, my piece of junk camera was dried out, cooled down, and reluctantly working again. After the awards presentation, when I saw the race-winning bike being put away, I was glad that the camera chose to cooperate. The rear disc wheel had just come off so that the bike could go on a roof rack, but otherwise, this is the set up that Zabriskie used to win the Stars and Stripes jersey today. Pretty nice, huh? I just love time trial bikes.

(edited 9-4) Here is a link to a hi resolution shot of the bike.

james, you know, it’s kind of silly to have the images in your posts be links to other images, /of the exact same resolution/. i get all excited because i think that the small one is just a thumbnail, and i’ll click the link and actually see a nice interesting /big/ image, but the link leads me to the /same image again/.

so yeah. link to high res images pretty please.

Tim, welcome back from Italy. Good to hear from you. Too bad you couldn’t make it to Greenville for the race.

Anon, you are right. I have higher res shots of the bike that I will upload to flickr next week. 300 pixels wide is the max you can upload directly to blogger. I’ll let you know when better images are up.

It was about 5 inches from me right after the race. Rich Hincapie was waiting to take it over to the presentation area, and leaned it up against the barricades right in front of me.

The thing I found amazing was how narrow everything is: The aero tubes, the stays, the fork.

I’ve posted my pictures from the race, including Zabriskie’s bike under full power, over at Flickr.

Great photos Frank. Too bad I didn’t run into during the races. I finally got some of my pictures uploaded to flickr:

The guys from Hincapie Sportswear were handling the bike when I saw it as well. I guess since Dave Z was staying with George and family, they were taking care of getting the bike to the Hincapie residence. It was pretty cool to see this machine up close.
