The 2005 International Bicycle Design Competition

I just saw a post on Blue Collar Mountain Biking that shows the winner of the 2005 International Bicycle Design Competition in Taiwan. Every year, this competition generates some very interesting designs. Though some of the past submissions have appeared to be far from practical, I have always enjoyed seeing the fresh, and sometimes odd, ideas that come out of this competition each year. To see some of the past winners, click the winners link on the IBDC website. Most of you will probably recognize the 2004 winner, which was later seen all over the web. The designers of the Shift bike received a lot of attention from the press for their innovative approach to the concept of a bike for kids learning to ride.

Check out more pictures of the Trix tricycle (pictured above) and of other finalists from the 2005 competition. One last thing, if you have a great idea for a new bike, don’t forget to bookmark the site and enter the 2006 competition in May.

I just got back from Taiwan, and here’s something to say about the state of cycling.

you know there’s something wrong with the States when they don’t use more babes to showcase cycles. I picked up a taiwanese bicycle magazine, and although the bikes were nice, the other curvy parts were very nice. Too bad they don’t come with the bike.
