Bike-able streets in DWR

Every week, I get an email newsletter from Design Within Reach, a great modern furniture catalog. Today, the feature story was about cities made for walking (and biking). Urban design is a subject that always interests me. In this case, they used the nearby South Carolina city of Charleston as an example, so I felt further compelled to share the newsletter.

I especially like this quote that they highlighted from the late, great author and architectural critic Lewis Mumford. “Forget the damned motor car and build the cities for lovers and friends.”

Here’s the correct link for the newsletter.

I’m listening to The Orb’s “Bicycles and Tricycles” right now per Walter’s suggestion. Spacy.

Oops! I went back and fixed the link.

That reminds me. I need to check that album out too. That kind of music is good for creative work.

this makes me think of “divorce your car!” (author’s a bike friday owner, too!) if ya’ll haven’t read it, you should.

as for alex patterson, the guy is a genius. but not the kind of album you stick on the ipod for a fast ride.

for that, i often find myself propelled by such things as or or or or something.
